Recession Time Lip Blam

Recession is here.. so is cost-cutting..

But my desire for a nice lip-balm never goes away. I have heard rave reviews for the Cherry Lip Balm by Nivea, but when you take into account my history with skin break-out due to Nivea, I ain't so sure bout the lippie.

So I set out to making my own lip balm. With bees wax. not petroleum wax which i am allergic to.

Which was not easy to lay hands on.

So after a lot of googling and calling, I got some of that yellow wax.

Melted a spoonful in a water bath, added 2 spoons of almond oil, 2 of jojoba oil, 2 of avocado oil, and 1 of Castor oil for glossiness, (I like my lip balms to be glossy, not matte), a few shavings of a red lipstick, stirred it all with a toothpick. (do not allow water to boil, wax will catch fire!)

Then took it off the bath, added 2 drops of lemon essential oil, poured it into a twist container that I got from the same lady who I bought bees wax from. Popped it into the freezer for 20 mins.

Viola, lip balm is ready, glossy and pink to use.

And the entire cost of the lip balm with all raw materials and all does not exceed 30 bucks. Plus it is just how i like it and i know what exactly has gone into it.

I also made some with less oil for my mom, a slightly stiffer version, that is more balmy than glossy.

Next time I plan to incorporate the more exotic shea butter in it too.

Recession does not mean you don't look your best, it just means that you have to think of alternative routes and smarter routes to get there.

Do write in with your recession time tips on looking good.

Till then, Stay Pretty.

  3. Hi,

I came to your page while googling "beeswax". I haven't been able to find any in India that an individual can buy and use, most sites only offer bulk orders. Would appreciate it if you can point me in the direction of the person you bought yours from.

    Thanks a bunch!
