Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer (Norwegian Formula) – Review

What Neutrogena Claims:
• An effective, moisture-enriched SPF 15 lip moisturizer that protects dry, chapped lips

What the Product Does:
• Softens, smoothes moisturizes and protects dry, chapped lips
• Soothes and conditions lips, keeping them healthy looking and soft in all weather
• PABA-free SPF 15 sunscreen helps protect from harmful UVB/UVA rays
• Fragrance-free, color-free
• Leaves no waxy feel

How and When To Use It:
Smooth on lips everyday to keep lips soft, moisturized and protected. Reapply as needed. For dry
chapped lips.

Price: 4g tube costs 95 Rs.

Active Ingredients: Octinoxate (7.5%), Oxybenzone (4%)

Inactive Ingredients: Castor Seed Oil (Ricinus Communis), Corn Oil (Zea Mays), Ozokerite, Petrolatum, Beeswax, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Paraffin, Stearyl Alcohol, Carnauba Wax (Copernicia Cerifera), BHT
Pros:
1.      It pretty much does everything it claims. I suffer from horrible chapped lips that need constant care. This pretty much does the work for me and it acts really fast, you can see major improvement almost overnight after a single application.

2.      There is no fragrance to it, although my hubby hates it as he says it tastes funny. I dunno. I am unable to detect any such smell or taste to it

3.      It has SPF protection 15 to boot

4.      PABA – free. PABA is 4-Aminobenzoic acid, chemically and a known allergen (meaning that it can cause allergies in sensitive skin). In the past, PABA was widely used in sunscreens as UV filter.Today with rising awareness a lot of companies are offering PABA – free sunscreens.

5.      Twist up tube – not a tub – offers better hygiene. Though my tube’s twist up mechanism broke soon after purchase, so the balm rises up but won’t go back. I had to freeze it in the freezer and then push it back.
6. It does not give a whitish waxy cast to the lips like a lot of other heavy lip balms- unless you apply too much. Go gentle on the application and you should be fine.
Cons:
1.      It does have a very, very slight waxy feel to it. Well, not very waxy and heavy like Lotus lip balms, but there is a texture to it that everyone may not enjoy. I don't mind it.

2.      Non-tinted. Ok, this is a big con for me. In any case I use this only at night time mostly so it is ok, But I work around during the day it by layering it on top of a berry colored lip pencil to get the best of both worlds.

3.      Effect is not long – lasting. If I don’t use this for a day or two my lips go back to the dry, chapped state they were in. But then, I am yet to come across a lip balm that has solved my problem completely.

4.      I can’t figure out what is so Norwegian about the formula. Maybe I’ll have to do some reading up on the net. :D

Will I re-purchase: Yes.
This is a completely non-fussy, lip balm that does its job well. And I have very demanding, chapped lips that need to be in tip-top condition at all times to carry off my lippies and glosses.
It seems that abroad they have a lot of different varieties of lip balm. But in India - this is the one single product they are retailing right now for the lips.

  3. Sounds nyc!!But lik u I prefer a tinted balm so that I don't hav 2 bother will a lipstick..but applying plain lipstick on to my lips does make them very dry - so maybe this would be good in dat sense..It would not interfere wid the colour of the lippie

  4. I would stock this balm next month for SPF sake. I am so full of lip balms right now that I am wondering whether I would be able to finish them all up.I have taken some inspiration from you in lip balms don't-buy-new-until-you-finish-what-you-already-have. I guess this would also help me review all that I is lying ignored in my closet and do justice to them. :P

I posted the comment twice on your blog yesterday and both times it didn't show. :(

Oh, Am sorry Rati! Blogger tends to behave weird at times! Sorry for the trouble!

  7. Have you noticed the Warning label which reads "For external use only. If swallowed, contact a poison control center right away.'
I don't remember this kind of warning in any of the lip balms or lipsticks.
