Packing Makeup for your Diwali Trip

For those of you who are off to your parent's or in-laws place for Diwali (I am this Friday) and are wondering what eyeshadow, lipstick & Blush colors to carry to match every occasion and every dress, here is a quick list of shades that always works for me:

1. Purple Eyeshadow: I find this shade compliments both day & night events (just moderate the amount applied) and looks good on all skin tones & all eyes. I personally like jewel purple shades and plan to use the one in Colorbar's Warm Quad. Another option is Maybelline's Time for Wine quad (it is a little low on pigmentation and color payoff though - good for daytime)

2. Peach Blush: Unlike pink cheek colors, which don't go with all dresses and can look a little kiddish, a peach blush with a little shimmer goes perfectly with every dress and every occasion as well. I'll like my Bourjois powder blush in #33 - Lilas D'or for when I want a peachy pink blush with shimmer. Just temper the application for a subtle or bold look as needed. I also very tempted to carry my Inglot Liquid Blush no. 81 with me :-P

3.Gold Eyeshadow: This is the ultimate metallic shade for everyone and will look good with all the jewellery you will wear this Diwali.  Pick a formula that has a shimmery finish and, apply it as either a light wash on the lids or a subtle highlight under the brows. I have this eyeshadow in a cream formula from this local brand Star Cosmetics (available on second floor at Khar Beauty Centre)
Revlon Cherries in the Glow

4. Sheer Rosy Lip Gloss: A rosy pink lip gloss will look like most people's natural lip color. I like Revlon's Cherries in the Glow - a perfect Sheer Rosy without shimmer to distract. To go with this, I'll also be carrying Revlon Colorburst in Rosy Nude.

5. Brown Eye Shadow Quad: Variety may be the spice of life, but every woman can work from the same traditional brown shadow quad. Ideal for day looks when you are off sight seeing or visiting the market. Glam it up for the night by apply a sheer wash of Golden eyeshadow (No.4) on top or combining it with a deep bronze eyeshadow (no. 7). Need I tell you girls which brown eyeshadow quad I am gonna be taking with me?

Another alternative that I found for this quad is Lakme's Desert Rose. It's not really brown, but it does have shades like coppery brown, bronze, and light yellow gold. It had been languishing under all my other makeup. I think I used it like twice. Maybe I should take it along so that it too gets some air?? :-P
6. Turquoise Liner or any bright liner: Turquoise is a shade that looks good on everyone, plus it is really bright enough to give you the pop you need. I am planning to get Bourjois Clubbing liner in Blue Remixed, after I saw it on Rashmi's blog. Of course it is not mandatory to take this shade, take which ever color makes you happy.

7. Shimmery deep bronze eyeshadow: When you want something a little more festive than your basic neutrals, a glimmering deep bronze shadow is an evening look that works on everyone. Because it's an amped-up version of brown, all skin tones can pull it off on the lids or in the crease. This color too is there in Colorbar's Warm Eyeshadow palette.

Revlon Colorburst in True Red
8. A Red lipstick: for when you want to glam up things, nothing is more handy than a red lipstick. I plan to carry my Revlon Colorburst True Red as well as the Maybelline Colorsensational Lipgloss in Cranberry Cocktail

9. Dark Brown Liner: Goes with all eyeshadow looks - smokey/neutral and is also more subtle than black. I'll be taking Colorbar I - Glide pencil liner in Cocobar.

Mandatory Makeup List: I always carry a black mascara (Bourjois Lash Effet is going this time), black eyeliner (Lakme Black Satin kajal), tinted moisturiser, concealer, eyeshadow base (NYX in Pearl) and The Body Shop Makeup Brush Travel kit.

What are your must have colors when packing for a trip? Anything else you think I should carry?

@Ki: You must review this CS Palette and tell us if it is worth the hype! I guess if I carried 88 eyeshadows with me, there is little else I too would need :-D.. Happy Diwali!

@Retnu: I think it should. You could test it at the counter before purchasing :)
