Olay Moisturizing Lotion - Review

It claims: Olay Moisturizing Lotion is a light, non-greasy formula which gets absorbed quickly and effectively softens and smoothes for younger looking skin.

This lotion is formulated with an exacted blend of ingredients to help restore and maintain a firm youthful looking skin. Its formula contains fluids so similar to the natural fluids in young skin that skin readily claims them as its own and quickly and replenishes essential moisture.

In laboratory testing, Olay moisturizing lotion has been shown to significantly boost skin hydration, increase skin suppleness and firmness with overall improved skin smoothness.

Ingredients:

Price: Rs. 385 for 150 ml. You also get smaller 30ml & 75ml bottles.

What I liked:

1. It moisturizes yet doesn't feel oily or heavy at any point. It feels like a waterbased lotion that sinks into the skin without leaving any weird film on the skin. If you want, this product can be applied in multiple thin layers without any discomfort.

2. Works well under makeup. It takes only a minute to sink in and doesn't interfere with makeup application (Other than on my eye lids, I have oily lids. This just makes it worse.

3. It doesn't have SPF so no white marks that you need to rub in.

4. Smells nice, a light floral scent.

5. The bottle lasted 3 months. Long enough for me.

What could be better:

1. While it moisturizes enough for 6 to 8 hours, it doesn't build cumulative hydration in the skin. I didn't feel like my skin improved as a result of using this for 3 months straight, every morning. I somehow expect moisturizers to increase the base level hydration of my skin so that my skin improves with usage. I didn't experience that with this product.

2. I'm not sure it is the best for very dehydrated skin. And am also not sure for oily skinned gals. I have normal skin that tends to dryness because of the AC.

3. They seem to have gone overboard with the claims listed. I really didn't see any of them materialize - especially suppleness & firmness. Unless you count the tangential inference that women who use face moisturizers generally have better skin over time than those who use nothing at all.

4. If you seek multi-taskers (SPF, Anti-Aging, Tinted with foundation, Unicorn Glitter and so on) then this will not impress you.

5. This may seem over-priced especially if you compare it with local brands like Biotique, Himalaya or even Ponds.

Overall: If you are looking for a no-frills, simple, non-oily moisturizing lotion for use during the day / under makeup this is a HG product. I feel that even men might be okay using this, because it is light and non-oily if they are okay with the slight feminine fragrance, which anyways lingers only for a couple of minutes.

I haven't repurchased this, because right now I'm on a sorta spending ban where I'm trying to finish off things before purchasing new ones. But I can see that none of the others I am using (Biotique Morning Nectar for one is too oily, Loreal Aqua Hydration Cream forms an uncomfortable layer, Elovera is awesome in every way but it needs a bit of time to sink into my skin - not good on rushed office mornings) are as good as this. I may hop over to Himalaya for a cheaper alternative. In case that doesn't work out, it is back to Olay!

What do you like to use as your basic no-frills moisturizer?

Comments

  1. I have using the Lutus Phtyrx rejuvina. It does make your skin oily after sometime, but it takes care of minor rashes and heat burns.
You could try using the liquid lotion from Elovera. But then, since you have found this one, keep those for the other seasons IMO
