Nivea Creme in Blue Tin - review

Nivea Cream (the blue tin one) – the review
Ok, brace yourself. We are entering holy territory here. Just to give you a background on how holy this is consider the following:
  • Nivea cream is the world’s first stable water-in-oil cream. The emulsifying agent is Eucerit is made from lanolin, found in sheep's wool, and is the key to NIVEA Creme's unique properties.

  • Prior to the introduction of NIVEA Creme, skin creams were primarily sold to upper-class women.  NIVEA was the first mass market skincare product.
·         Every second, a pot of NIVEA Creme is sold somewhere in the world.

  • Over 98% of the ingredients within NIVEA Creme are natural.

Ok, so now we know that Nivea cream in a blue tin has been a pioneer of its times. In more ways than one.
It does not claim to do anything fancy like reduce fine lines or brighten your skin, but it does lay claim to be a moisturizer. Here’s my experience:

Ingredients: Water, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Glycerin, Microcrystalline Wax, Lanolin Alcohol, Paraffin, Panthenol, Alcohol, Magnesium Sulfate, Decyl Oleate, Octyldodecanol, Aluminum Stearate, Fragrance, Citric Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone

Pros:
  1. Smells mild & lovely
  2. Good for moisturizing body parts like arms and legs
  3. Not very expensive

Cons:
  1. Now this is where this fairy tale falls apart for me. I got a horrible allergic reaction to it. The cream dried out (yes, dried out) my face completely and gave me a bad case of dry, dehydrated, parched skin. My skin lost its smoothness, the area under my eye looked like parched paper. It was the worst my skin has ever looked. And I am not sure if my skin (or me as a matter of fact) have ever recovered completely from that shock. I really don’t know why it happened. All I know is that since that day I have avoided this like plague. And later I was to discover that I am not the only one. Other people around the world have also experienced the same allergic reaction. I purchased Nivea locally, so I am not sure if that is the reason, but people in online forums do claim that only the German version is the best & the original and that the rest don’t seem to work as well. I don’t know about that.
  2. Do I need to give other cons? Well, for the sake of the review let me continue: It is extremely thick and won’t get absorbed instantly.

Will I re-purchase: No… no way. Once bitten, twice shy.

  2. Gosh! I was going to do a review on the same and I would have not come up with these cons.

I was actually looking for a hand cream so the sales girl persuaded me to buy this cream. I have been using it for a month now and my hands and feet have become softer than before. i actually never thought of using it on my face because I find it way too think to be applied on face. Thank God! the thought of applying it on my face didn't cross my mind even for once.

  3. @ Zwala: U sure seem to get a lot of zits from a lot of things. I think u have very sensitive skin. Maybe it wld be better for u to visit a derm for prdts for ultra sensitive skin..

@ Rati: Out of fear frm wht happened, I never even used it on hands & feet.. in case the cream accidentally transferred itself to my face..
