Aromatherapy blend for Itchy Skin

Molluscum Contagious is virally related to the chicken pox family, which means that my boils tend to itch like hell, but I can’t scratch them or else they will spread. Calamine lotion was not working, and the itching was just getting terrible. I thought I would use some neem leaf water to treat it, but was unable to find the leaves. So I turned to my aromatherapy book for a solution.

It isn't Milia, but Molluscum contagiosum :(

Sounds ewww, right? You remember my post a few weeks ago, when my GP diagnosed my boils as milia. Turns out they aren’t milia but Molluscum contagiosum – a viral skin infection. I kept trying herbal home remedies to get rid of “milia”. But they persisted & in fact got worse – they were inflamed, red, spreading & had gotten bigger. I finally caved in and visited a dermatologist.

Psychology meets Skin Care - Skin Personalities by Nivea

Some of you may know about my other blog According to Freud. That is a psychology blog. Addicted to Blush is a Makeup blog. And I always felt that the twain shall never meet.
Nivea, gladly, proved me wrong. In order to celebrate 100 years of Nivea's existence, they did some pretty interesting. They researched "Skin Types". By Skin Types, I don't mean the regular dry, normal & oily. But skin types as related to your personality! So the way you describe your skin issues is actually related to your personality

NIVEA’s International Skin Survey shows a direct correlation between biography, personality and ‘perceived’ skin typeFive different ‘skin personalities’ worldwide

How to wear Pale Green Eyeliner

Pale greeneyeshadow or eyeliner looks really nice worn with a shimmery bronzer and a glossy beige lipstick.

Smudge out the edges of the liner on the lid, and dab a little along the lower lash lines, then layer on a few coats of black mascara.

Yardley of London English Lavender Body Spray - Review

It is always difficult to review fragrances since our experience of them is very individual.  Even past childhood memories can affect your opinion of a scent.
It claims: In early June, Lavender fills the fields with rich, aromatic purple abundance; a magnificent scene that captures the true beauty of a glorious English summer day. It has a green hay-like sweetness and gives fruity aspects to perfumes. It blends with almost every other scent and is therefore widely used in the perfume industry.
A light refreshing, long lasting Body Spray. Our signature fragrance combines lavender leaves, neroli and clary sage with a heart of lavender oil and geranium, with deeper notes of sandalwood and tonka bean.
Price: Rs. 150 for 150 ml spray can. This is also available in a smaller 75 ml size in 6 different variants (English Lavender, English Rose, Red Roses, Lily of the Valley, Jasmine and Sandalwood).
What I liked: This is dominated by a scent from one particular flower – Lavender. This is a clean…

How to wear Yellow Eyeliner

Colored Eyeliners are the latest range this summer & I expect the trend to continue till the end of the rainy season. What better way to celebrate spring & then light up gloomy rainy days than a flash of bright eyeliner

But wearing colored eyeliners is not always easy, they are difficult to pair & match with lip & blush colors. Also not all of us want to ground these all the time. (P.S. Grounding a colorful eyeliner is the technique of applying a thin line of black liquid liner near the upper lashes to make the lashes seem thicker & provide a break buffer between the colored eyeliner & the dark lashes)

I am a big fan of colored eyeliners. I generally don't like black liners / kajals as they don't look good on me. Over the years I have understood a little bit about pairing colored liners. I thought I would do a series of these posts for those of you who love colored eyeliners as much as me.

P.S: Please note that these are just my suggestions & are me…

MAC Dark Diversion Fluidline - Review

This fluidline is a part of the Stylishly Your’s LE Collection.
This is my first fluidline. There is also an interesting story behind its purchase. I have been waiting for months to lay my hands on this fluidline. I saw the swatches on Temptalia & knew instantly that this fluidline is what I have been waiting for. Burgundy – purple tempered with a touch of black-brown to sober it.
The collection was launched on a Friday here & as luck would have it, I was out of town & coming back on Sunday evening. But I was armed & prepared. Couple of days before the launch I begged & cajoled the MUA to please, pretty, please pre-book a pot for me. She was reluctant, what if I didn’t want it after testing it. I assured her, as a makeup fanatic, I knew this was what I wanted.
And then on Monday evening, after work, I had laid my hands on it. It has since adorned my upper lash line every single day, and I have been babbling & asking every makeup fanatic I meet to try this out.

Is that a Golden Twinkle in your Eye?

Gold seems to be the color of the season, right from Lakme’s gold tinged Fantasy collection to L’oreal’s L’or L’or L’or collection showcased at Cannes 2011. This is good news for us, we Indian’s have a love of all things golden. This noble metallic shade plays beautifully with our warm, yellow skintones & hazel tinged eyes. A cult favorite for bridal wear, here are some fun ways translate the look:
Gold Eyeshadow & Liner Simply apply gold shadow and liner (I love the Diana of London Shooting Stars range, you could even try Colorbar) paired with curled mascaraed lashes and rosy beige lipstick.
If you are good at blending, you could even attempt a golden smoky eyes. Apply white gold on the inner corners and on the lids, bronze in the crease and underneath the lash lines, and a neutral gold to highlight the brow bones. In eyeshadows, MUFE Aqua Cream in # 11 - Gold is a nice option. In budget tryMaybelline’s Give Me Gold Quad.

Towels & Haircare

Taking care of relaxed hair is a full time job, & I have been doing a lot of reading up & talking to some hair care experts. I have learnt a lot of new things & have been trying out those.

One of the most important things I learnt about was the importance of a towel used post washing in hair care. Curious? Wanna know what the big deal is about a towel?

Well as it turns out, Towels are not good for our hair!!

Yea, that is right. Towels are bad for the hair

Don't keep your hair wrapped up in that towel post washing! While it is a  habit for a lot of us (Wrap up that hair & do your makeup - no drippy hair), it seems the cotton in most towels is quite abrasive for hair, it damages the cuticle & actually causes hair to become very frizzy. It can also at times, absorb too much water & actually dehydrate the hair.

Instead just squeeze / dab your wet hair between the folds of a towel for a minute max & then let go.

Or else you could try my method: Wear your towe…

Finally! I can lay my hands on the BB cream...

Other than the BB cream, the Cleansing Oil is on my list! :D

Mac Lip Prep + Prime - Preview

After a long time, a product has excited me enough to do a preview. I have been blogging for 2 years now, & to the point of sounding immodest, I had begun to think that I had pretty much seen it all - textures, features.

To top it all, I always though primers were meant for oily eyelids, and for some oily faces. Primers for lips? What's that? I thought lip balm sufficed. Yea, it never worked that great though. It would invariably cause the lipstick to bleed & fade faster - no matter what balm I used.

Lipsticks have always been a problem area for me, they never last longer than 4 hours, plus I have very pigmented lips - it took a me a long time to figure out that certain lip colors look fab against my hand but awful on my lips. Plus I never seemed to be able to duplicate that sharp edge of lip color that I saw models sport.

A few days ago, I heard about this primer, for the lips! Imagine my shock, I had no idea such a product existed. But it did, in MAC Land. It promises to …

Summer Holiday? My Must Haves

Image via Wikipedia A lot of people I know are headed to some exotic beach or hill - station for a holiday to beat the sticky heat of May. I have just come back from a trip to Mahabaleshwar & am regretting it already. Like the Britishers, I think I too should build a summer home over there to retreat from Mumbai's heat & humidity for around 4 months of the year.

On a summer holiday, you just want to chill out, without a care in a world. You don't want to deal with powdery textures & runny makeup. So here is a quick list of stuff you can carry to make you look as cool as a cucumber without any effort.

1. Sunscreen: Just carry whatever suits you. Also carry some after sun cream to help with any sun burns. Aloe Vera is a easy option. Carry a lot of scarfs & caps/hats to protect your hair & face.

2. Haircare: Carry your shampoos. conditioners, serums & the works. Hair tends to get dirty much more quickly during summers. Carry your entire aresenal of hairca…

Beauty and the Bullshit

I must share this with you, girls! Head over to this blog called Beauty and the Bullshit.

Written by a girl who actually works in the cosmetic industry, she gives a shocking peek into what really goes on in these cosmetic companies. She not only helps us decipher what through the senseless claims of companies (like "Ophthalmologically tested" - what does that really mean?) & why do our favourite products get discontinued.

Honestly, I was a little shocked when I read it. But then these companies are here to mint money & if we as consumers get fooled, it is only up to us to educate ourselves.

In fact that was one of the reasons I started to write this blog, way back in 2008. I got sick & tired of our Indian companies taking us for granted, shipping us sub-standard stuff at exorbitant rates. There was no voice of the consumer. No one letting the companies know that you need to give us our money's worth.

Today there are a lot of blogs, people write for their …
