Review - Shampoo

Smells nice. Does leave the hair soft and cleans and lathers well. It also was able to remove all traces of coconut / hair oil in one wash itself leaving my hair squeaky clean. I naturally suffer from quite a bit of hairfall, so I don't think this stopped it in any way, but it also didn't make it worse. I liked this one.

I have very fine hair, and …

Maybelline Color Sensation Lipstick and Lip Gloss - Review

There has been a mad buzz around the Maybelline Color Sensational Range since the day it was launched abroad and India too has been no different. Of course, I am not impervious to all this and *had* to figure out what the fuss was all about.

I picked a lipstick - Tinted Taupe (a shimmery berry brown lip color) and a gloss Plum-tastic (plum berry) to check out the range.

Review - Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick (Tinted Taupe)

Pros: 1. Very moisturising. It just glides on the lips like a balm, and it is totally weightless. Lips feel soft and smooth for hours on end

2. Highly pigmented, despite being sheer (the one I got was sheer). The color payoff was good and the tint lasted for a good 5-6 hours.

3. Shimmer is very fine and does not feel gritty at all.

4. Price is economical. Rs. 299 a tube.

Cons:
1. The smell. I know lots of people love it, but I just can't stand the toffee smell. I am allergic to it and burst into a bout of sneezes every time I use this lipstick. I find th…

I should not have got this...

Buying makeup & skincare products can be very difficult at times especially when you are new to the entire scene. Sometimes we are stuck with products that are such total duds, we totally regret purchasing them.

Sometimes the product itself overpromises and underdelivers, sometimes we get taken in by the words of the SA and end up buying products that are 'Oh-So-Wrong' for our skin.

Below are some of the products that I bought during my initial trysts with makeup, that always make me go - "What was I thinking?"

1. Maybelline Dream Matt Mousse Foundation: This was one of the first foundations I got, used it barely twice. While it offers good coverage, this is just not meant for dry skin. It just amplified every bit of dry flaky skin, and was very difficult to blend despite the whipped formulation. Looked very fake, and very chalky. I am not sure the product was at fault here - I just picked the wrong formula for my skin.

I now am using this as a spot concealor t…

Bourjois Rose Exclusif Lip Gloss 01 - Review

This lip gloss, I had heard, was going to launch in August 2010, but it seems to have already hit our shores. (I like :-) )

What it claims: A transparent lipgloss that self-adjusts into a unique personalized pink when applied to your lips. It adapts to the pH of your lips.

Price: Rs. 525 for 7.5 ml tube

Where: New Beauty Centre, Khar

Pros:

1. This is a colorless gloss (no shimmer) that turns a real pretty pink on the lips. It keeps getting darker once applied over a period of 2 hours to turn hot pink finally. But it is very wearable bright cool toned pink. Like Barbie pink.

2. Quite long wearing. This lasted on my lips for a good 4-5 hours through lunch. It also leaves behind a nice pink tint.

3. Odourless & Tasteless to me.

Cons:

1. This gloss is little bit sticky. Not very, but just a little bit. That probably is the reason why it lasts so long. But I don't find this stickiness untolerable. I am quite ok with it.

2. It is a bit pricy for a gloss - that too a fancy one.

MAC Rodarte Controversy

While going through a few of my favourite blogs, I chanced upon this huge MAC - Rodarte Controversy that is splitting the blogosphere into two.

MAC apparently is launching a make-up collection abroad, inspired by Mexico, that has some some offensive names and connotations.

For example, one of the nail paints in this line is Juarez.

Juarez is the world's most dangeous and violent town. Everyday, a number of women are abducted on their way to work at factories and brutally raped and murdered. The police is a silent spectator to this atrocity that has been happening for more than 10 years now. The citizens of this town live in abject poverty and fear.

The other products in this range has equally odd names like Factory, Badlands, Sleepless, Ghost Town that are offensive to Latin people and those in Mexico who have been living in very bad conditions for years.

MAC of course has responded quickly and apologised. They have also agreed to donate a portion of the profits to a charity i…

June Favourites

First of all, thanks a lot for your lovely messages, I am feeling much better now. :-)

I quite missed blogging & connecting with you guys during the last few days, and with my energy levels rising I hope to get back to it regularly quite soon.

In the meanwhile, I thought I would share my June Fav products with you.

1. Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks: My current favourites are Nude Rosey & Soft Rose for day, and Raspberry for night. With Maybelline Colorsensation lipsticks almost at our shores I am waiting to get well soon and check out how they compare with Revlon (They are supossed to be quite similar).

2. Jordana Glitterama Eye Pencils: I quite like these shimmery, glittery eyepencils. At Rs. 149/- a piece, they are quite soft on the pocket. But use a base to get maximum wear out of these pencils, they tend to fade over time otherwise. My favourites are Black Bash (which is actually a dark charcoal grey - black with silver shimmer) and the Dark Blue one (Dark blue with blue &…

Face Balm

I have been hearing about face balms since the last few months. Abroad they have attained a little bit of cult status for people with dry or mature skins.

Face Balms are basically simple beeswax and oil formulations, made in such a way to provide instant relief to dry skin, while not creating a oily mess on the face. They are super-rich with essential oils and calm the skin instantly. They are also highly portable as they in solid formulations. Unfortunately they are yet to come to our shores.

Quite inadvertently I found my face balm last week.

In a hurry to drop my parents to the station, I washed my face with a bar of soap. About an hour into the journey, my skin began to feel stretched and itchy. Fumbling in my huge bag, I realised that I was not carrying any lotion, and I still had another 3 hours of travel in front of me.

That is when it happened. In utter desperation.

I grabbed the tube of Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm (the one in the light blue tube) and very gingerly applied s…

Lakme Night Fever Lip Artist - Review

What Lakme Claims: Use these color rich sticks to define your lip line or fill with intense color. Enhanced with skin care vitamins for soft, smooth application. Take your pick of the hottest shades from deep crimsons to classic terracottas.
M.R.P. : Rs. 250/-

Pros:
1. They are quite soft and apply easily on the lips without tugging or pulling
2. Colors are intense, you just need to apply a little bit for the colors to show up and the pencils themselves are not as drying as lip pencils can get
3. They stay on for quite long - I generally use them to fill in my entire lip & top it with gloss. It lasts for a good 3-4 hours. Without gloss, I think it would last even longer.

Cons
1. The colors. They could have made some more lighter shades.  I have terracotta, siena and crimson.

Terracotta is a nice peachy coral shade, but on my pigmented lips it shows up as Orange (not nice), but once I layer it with a light pink gloss it looks really fab for both day & night looks.

Siena is too bro…

Lakme Night Fever Eye Magic - Review

PS: Before I start, sorry for the long absence, been a little under the weather with Jaundice.

What it claims: The lightweight, translucent gel comes with quick dry formula that fixes the sparkle in place. Paint crystalline lines for a soft look or sweep the entire eyelid for a jewel encrusted look. Can be used as an eye shadow or as a highlighter for cheeks or any other part of the body in classic shades of gold and silver for a subtle, pearly shine.
Price: Rs. 295/-

Pros:
1. It does dry pretty fast and stays on for a good 3-4 hours (of partying and dancing), fading very little on the lids. In fact adding this on top of my eyeshadow also considerably increased its adherence. My eyeshadow stayed on longer.
2. Thanks to the fact that it is liquid & quick dry, it is totally non-messy compared to similar shimmer powders for the eye. There is no fallout.
2. Takes any ordinary matt eyeshadow to another level of oomph. It just transforms the entire look.
3. Can be used as eyeliner with …

Make up in your Thirties

The crazy, uncertain days of your twenties are done with. For most part you are now settled in your career, and know what looks good on you and what doesn't. You have a distinctive style now.

But now that you have hit 30, it is no reason to suddenly abandon the crazy color-filled days of your 30s and settle for neutrals in your make-up.

Here are some tips to help you look your best:

1. Foundation: Now is the time to invest in a good, branded foundation. If you notice your skin veering towards dryness or any fine fines, opt for a liquid foundation. If you find the coverage too heavy, you can always thin it out with a moisturiser. If possible get something with illuminating properties. The radiance provided by this will hide all minor fine lines and dry skin.

2. Concealor: Dark circles creeping up? Use a good, branded concealor.

A good foundation & concealor together can take years off your face, and give you a smooth canvas to work with.

3. Blush: Use a peach-brown toned blus…
