Removing Make Up

We have all heard how important it is to remove make-up. However, I recently got enlightened that Make Up Removers come in more forms than your regular cleansing milk.

Technology & Cleansers have advanced. Big Time.

Here is a quick update on what's available these days:

1. Bi-phase make-up removers: These removers combine oil and water components in one convenient bottle. To use, shake to mix, apply on cotton and swipe off. These are the most advanced removers and are excellent for removing smudge free eyeliners & water resistant mascara & make-up. These literally dissolve the make-up, so that you don't have to tug hard on delicate skin, and the oil prevents dryness. I love these for the ease.
Try: ColorBar Bi-Phase Make Up Remover, Rs 650 (These days these are on sale, flat 250/- Rs off, so you will get them for 400 Rs); Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Make-up Remover, Rs 530.

2. Make-up wipes: Easy to use, these are cotton or cloth pads pre-drenched in make-up remover. Simply pull out one and swipe; perfect for travel.
Try: Kara Deep Pore Cleansing Wipes; L’OrĂ©al Paris DermoExpertise De-Maq Expert Innovations, Rs 600.

3. Make-up remover & facewash: This is a make-up remover applied much like a facewash – smooth it on, use a little water to foam it up and wash off for clean, make-up free skin – works for oily skins.
Try: Chambor Beauty Sponges, Rs 485.

4. Cleansing milk: A milky concoction, this cleanser is smoothed over face, massaged cotton – ideal for dry and mature without drying. Splash some water thereafter.
Try: Lotus Herbal’s LemonPure Cleansing Milk, Rs 145 (80ml); Lakme Deep Cleansing Milk; Himalaya Deep Cleansing Milk

 5. Cleansing Oil: This can be something as exotic as avocado oil to plain ole' baby oil. This dissolves most make, however it does have the potential to block pores with a mixture of make-up dissolved in oil.
 Try: Biotique Almond Cleansing Oil

6. Plain Moisturizer/Cold Cream: I used this trick for a very long time. Basically I just took all the moisturisers/cold creams/cremes that didn't suit me and used them to remove make-up.
Try: Lakme Strawberry Creme. (This thing didn't suit me as a moisturiser at all, but it makes a very delicious smelling cleanser)

What's your cleanser of choice?

  1. Hey nice post. Cleansing oil is my weapon of choice n I think i'm gonna stick to it. It's gentle, removes every type of make-up effortlessly n it just takes a few minutes. Love it!

  4. Hi Tanveer,

Enjoyed reading all your posts. I see that there are no reviews on Home Mocrodermabrasion kits available in India. Why don't you post a review on a few of them so that we would be enlightened about the right brand to choose

  7. @Anon: Hey, sorry.. I totally missed yr earlier comment :D

Frankly, I am sorry but I won't be reviewing home microdermabrasion kits. I am just 27 and feel it is a procedure better suited to those 45 and above.

In any case I think Ponds is the only brand that makes this kit as of now. You could google for a review of tht. I am sure u'll find some online. :D...

  8. @Tanveer: Very true about the usage of this kit. Recently I visited a health and glow outlet and was taking a look at the Ponds microdermabrasion kit. The SA asked me if I was planning to buy it and I said I would like to know more. Then she examined my skin and asked my age. When I said I was 28, she clearly said that at your age you definitley dont need this. And after that explained to me the real process of MD and that it would help only people above 40.

I was so happy with her service. In todays Indian market scenario and esp with crappy companies like Lakme, thus was a fresh approach.
