REDWOOD has been the colossus of the forest since the Jurassic era, an ancient and mysterious tree with great regenerating powers.

To Use:

Price: 55gms for Rs. 229 / -
Shades/types: This is available in 3 types/colors: Rose , Peach, & Olive. I am not sure if the names relate to the color of the product, or are indicative of the ingredient list as each of the products do contain rose, peach and olive extracts respectively.
The SA told me it was colors, with Rose for light skin, Peach for medium skin and Olive for dark skin. But there were no testers at the store – so I don’t know if she was right.
Ingredients: For some reason all 3 types have slightly differing ingredient list. I think this might be to impart different shades or else moisturizing properties. Not sure though, how this affects the product performance.
Disclaimer: Except for the rose variant, the ingredient lists for the other two were obtained by me from the net, from a vendor's site. Biotique's site has not been upgraded and does not feature the ingredient list)
Bio Redwood Naturally Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 (Peach) Contains (ingredient list obtained from here):

  • Rakt Chandan(Pterocarpus santalinus) 3.0%: Red Sandalwood

  • Cream Base Q.S.

Bio Redwood Naturally Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 (Olive)
Contains (ingridient list obtained from here):
  • Ashwagandha(Withania somnifera) Winter Cherry 0.5%,
  • Jaitun(Olea europaea) 3.0%: Olive
  • Nag Keshar(Mesuaferrea) 1.0%: Indian Rose Chestnut tree: It enhances the complexion.
  • Arjun(Terminalia arjuna) 0.5%: the bark of this tree is very rich in antioxidants
  • Rakt Chandan(Pterocarpus santalinus) 3.0%: Red sandalwood
  • Madhu (Honey) 1.5%,
  • Cream Base Q.S.

Bio Redwood Naturally Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 (Rose) Contains (ingredient list obtained from the pack I bought):
  • Ashwagandha(Withania somnifera) Winter Cherry 1%,
  • Nag Keshar(Mesuaferrea) 1.0%: Indian Rose Chestnut tree: It enhances the complexion.
  • Gulab Pusp (Triticum vulgare (Germinated)): 3% This seems like something to do with Rose, but am unsure
  • Arjun(Terminalia arjuna) 1.0 %: the bark of this tree is very rich in antioxidants
  • Rakt Chandan(Pterocarpus santalinus) 3.0%: Red Sandalwood
  • Lodhra (Symplocos Racemosa) 1.5%
  • Madhu (Honey): 1%
  • Cream base Q.S.

My Review is only for the Rose version of this product. I have not used used the other two versions.

Pros:
1.      Imparts a lovely glow to the skin, a very dewy look

2.      Very moisturizing. It is very creamy and made my skin very soft. Even my cream blush was easier to blend on this than on any other tinted moisturizer that I have tried

3.      Despite being so moisturizing and full of nourishing oils – it did not break me out at all.

4.      Only organic products have been used (organic plants have been cultivated without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides) for this moisturizer

5.      It is preservative free – so no parabens to worry about and it does have a long shelf life of 3 years (not 5 years unlike other Biotique products)

6.      Is SPF 30 and claims to provide both UVA & UVB protection

7.      Smells nice (to me that it, some people like my sister didn’t like the smell)
8. Biotique products are now being sold in sealed packs - with seals clearly stating do not purchase if broken. The bottle in now sold in an outer carton that is sealed.

Cons:
1.      This is a little heavy and oily in terms of moisturisation, even on my dry skin. So people with oily skin, those who have to travel in the hot sun may not like it. If you go overboard with application, instead of glowing you will just look oily.

2.      The tint is very sheer. It just evens out the complexion, but will not hide blemishes.

3.      The product is sold in those long Biotique trademark pots. As the product gets used, it becomes more and more difficult to remove it without getting it under your nails I would have preferred this in a tube.

4.      There were no testers available at the store. I had to go by the SA’s word and chose Rose for myself. She told me Rose was for light skin, but it does not say so on the pack. I could not figure out the difference in the 3 variants by just looking at the pack.

Will I re-purchase: Yes. Because I loved it as a slightly heavy moisturizer that puts the glow back into my skin instantly.

But I won’t use this in summers if I am going to out in heat & humidity where it will all melt off.
This is a good winter product for me, when I just need a lot more moisturization and plan to carry this with me on my trips out of Mumbai. Mumbai has very high humidity, as a result of which skin stays moisturized at all times. But whenever I have travelled to central or northern India – my skin begins to dry out terribly. It flakes and even peels. The only thing that can provides any relief is coconut oil. This might turn out to be a good option as it also has sunscreen protection.
Please note that this review is only for the Rose variant.

Edit (25th March 2012): I didn't buy this product again. While it was good for winters, and in most cases I didn't need more than a pea size amount, I found this too be too oily and heavy for a TM. I guess Ponds has spoilt me.
Have you used this product? Did you like it? What is your favorite tinted moisturizer?

  1. Still trying to get used to tinted moisturizers. Got the Lotus one recently but haven't used it as yet. The ingredient list and everything sounds nice.

You are our Biotique girl from now on. :P

    Hey Tanveer,

I was just waiting for your review of the newly launched Biotique Tinted Moisturiser. I have also got a pack of that in the Olive shade. It is the lightest of all the three. I actually made the SA open all the 3 packs and show me. Olive is the lightest, then comes Peach and then comes Rose.
What you have mentioned about "making the face oily" is true. I have a combination skin and it does make my skin a bit oily than the normal. It would be a good choice for the winters.
So which do you think is better ? Ponds TM or Biotique TM ? Agreed that Biotique is all natural but if you have to make a comparison what would you choose/recommend

  4. @Rati: I saw the lotus one - is it the same thing called "My tint" where you have to mix the foundation with the base to get your shade?

Thks for the moniker - I love biotique, just like Divs is in love with TBS.. LOL

  5. @Rima: Biotique has just introduced this product. I hope you like it too :D.. It is a little bit heavy though :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. @Lavanya: Really! Olive is the lightest? So I got the darkest is it... Hmm tht even further makes me certain that the tint is very sheer, coz it didn't look dark on me at all.. I think i'll try olive after I get done with this rose one.

Yea, it makes my face also look a lil bit oily. I carry dry tissue paper with me and blot my face every 3-4 hours when I use this. It really helps reduce the shine..

& i knew one of the readers would definitely ask me to choose between this & ponds.. LOL.. :D

Frankly between the two I prefer Ponds as a foundation because that gives me more coverage, as compared to the biotique one.

I'll put it this way - Ponds really is a "tinted moisturizer" - it'll give you coverage and a bit of moisture (I say bit coz to my dry skin it seems like a little bit only)

but Biotique is essentially a moisturizer first - with just a hint of a tint to make you glow, in terms of coverage Ponds is much better.

When I was in jabalpur last october - the Ponds TM didn't help at all when my skin began to dry and flake. It gave me coverage as a TM but not much moisture. I think for those times I wld reach out for Biotique TM..

I hope this helps & has not confused you more :P

  7. Tanveer I wonder how many mosituriser do you have in your almirah:D

I like biotique because its herbal and you know i am a complete herbal person and do not believe in chemicals at all but as i have a combination skin i will try it in winter...

I am using Fab India tinted moisturizer nowadays..Do you use Fab India product. They too are herbal .

  8. @Anamika: LOL.. I actually don't have a lot of moisturizers - just two actually - neutrogena for morning & jergens for night.

I bought this product thinking it wld be a tinted moisturizer - that is, a foundation in a moisturizing base that offers light to medium coverage.

But this is a review for Biotique's tinted moisturizer.

A TM is a foundation blended with a moisture base for those who find regular foundation too drying or the coverage too heavy. So actually when I bought this biotique product I thght I was buying a herbal foundation for myself. :D

Fab India has a tinted moisturizer? I didn't know about this. Can you do a review?

i don't use Fab India prdts simply coz the store is really far from my place, & u don't get the prdts at local stores - so I hear gr8 things about them but feel really lazy to travel all the way to new bombay or town side to get them..

  9. Hey Tanveer...thanks for this review...I was thinking of buying the Ponds TM soon and this review and also the comparison will help me alot in choosing the right one.....

I too didnt know that Fab India has a TM...I recently bght their body butter and am loving it....

Hey Anamika...If you can do a review of Fab India TM, it would be really helpful

    cheers

    Hey Tanveer,

Of Peach and Rose, Am not too sure which is the next lightest to Olive. But I for sure know that Olive is the lightest. As you said, it imparts a nice glow and a healthy look to the skin

  11. @HD: Glad to be of help :D

Ponds has testers so you can check them out before purchase unlike the Biotique ones.

Fab-I has body butters? Wow, sounds nice.. Maybe if I am town side for some work I will chk them out :D

@Lavanya: I think biotique should send testers with this product at least.. Will eliminate all confusion and might actually increase sales..

I actually really liked this product for all the glow and sheen. :D

  12. Ingredients n all sound good n ur right they need to change the packaging...not nice to have to dig yr fingers so deep in that pot! I think I'll pass on this coz it's thick...i guess thicker than Pond's AMTM.

    ♥XX♥

    ReplyDelete
  13. @CZ: I don't think u'll like this one.. I remember that u had once said that u found the ponds one to be slightly heavy.. This is way way thicker than that :D

& I know.. I hate the packaging too..

  14. Sounds amazing. Its great to see Indian companies come up with products. India needs its own brands. I want to move to INdia and come up with brands suited for Indian women.

  15. I have swatched the Ponds TM but since I had ponds age miracle cream that too 2 jars I thght of using up that first before buying the TM..

Yes...Fab I has body butters...I just found one while browing thru one of their stores casually and bght it since I quite liked the flavor and was reasonably priced too ;)

  16. @Shivanixx: I agree.. Foreign brands can't really make products suited to our coloring. Looking forward to your brand :D :D

@HD: Thks for the tip on BBs from Fab.. i will def try them out :D

  17. Probably too oily 4 me!!Shld stick to ponds- but it is nice 2 see other companies bringing in more products--Gives us options!!Nice review...

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Simran: Yes, too oily for you, You will not like this one. I know, I too love the fact that Indian companies are branching out from the regular old compact powder and maroon lipsticks stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  19. hah , same here too oily for me .. even I feel .like cynthia .. that Ponds one is litle too heavy and biotique one seems VERY moisturising.. specially in Delhi's summers .. YUk !!
its March and its already 38 degrees :(
Btw really ?? Rose is the darkestshade ? seems like they didnt care for dark skinned ladies like me :(

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Palak: I guess different skins - I find Ponds almost perfect - just needs a tad bit more moisture for me :)

It wld not do well for Delhi heat at all.

There is some confusion regarding the shades. They don't have testers in stores - But the SAs at both Alfa & beauty centre told me Rose is the lightest and Olive is the darkest.

However Lavanya tells us that it is the other way around - Olive is the lightest.

Frankly I don't know.. I hope Biotique gets testers in stores.

    ReplyDelete
  21. somehow i feel that rose should be the lighter one and olive should be the darker one, considering their names. just guessing, i haven't seen the product.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Rima: I think so too.. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have a fair complexion, olive is the best suited for fair skin...i just loved the product, its awesome, i have never ever used any mosituriser like this before which can give a perfect make up too !

    ReplyDelete
  24. Biotique tinted moisturiser is the best !

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Anon: Even I liked this product a lot, I guess I was using too dark a shade hence it looked even more oily on me. :)

Thks for commenting and clearing up the confusion on shades :D
