Office Eye Shadow Tips

Unless you work in media, IT or advertising, most offices in India tend to be on the conservative side. So you have to be a little careful when choosing your make-up colors.

I personally don't wear eyeshadows to work, and just use mascara & liner. But for those of you who want to, here is a quick guide:

1. Browns are your best friend.
All shades of brown and beige look lovely on the eye and are formal enough to wear to office. They suit all eye colors. Maybelline Chai Latte is a good economical option, but the color payoff is just average. I prefer single eyeshadows from both NYX & Jordana.

2. Bored with Brown, look at light grey/khaki yellow as an option.
Light matt grey is another great option for office wear. Or even light khaki yellows (Jordana single eyeshadow in Mimosa). Light shimmery pinks too are good too, but only a few people can carry this color.

3. Steer away from glitter all over the lid.
It will look OOT and tacky in office florecent light

4. Blue & Greens are not an option as eyeshadows
Unless you work for a media office, blues and greens no matter how lightly you apply them, will attract attention in bright white light. Unless that is exactly the reaction you are looking for, Refrain. However you can use blue, green, purple as eyeliners. Make a nice thin liner close to the lashes, that way you have your color too, without going OOT

Do you wear eye shadow to work? What are your color choices?

  2. I have an office where pretty much everything goes, but with lack of time, I mostly just smudge colorbar's truffle eyeliner on my upper and lower lashline, add some mascara and run off :P

  3. When I was working (I left the job 3 months ago)I used to wear eyeliner in all sorts of colours. I found that to be a good way to add some colour and have fun, but still be professional. As for e/s, I'm still a newbie, so I'm making do with the chai latte quad. Once I'm a little more proficient at the application, I have a long list of e/s I want to buy :P

  4. I agree that most offices consider colorful eyes to be very loud for the office environment however I wear all colors to work with a dash of mascara & kajal :)...

  7. @rakshanda: Yr so lucky u can carry off pastel shades. I just look pale and ill in them.

@Ki: Yr so lucky! Yeah, lack of time is one of the reasons I myself don't use eye shadow :)

@Poohkie: Same here. I love colored liners myself for office. But I tend to make thin lines close to the lashes just so that it looks ok. Chai Latte is good starter kit :)

@Pooja: It is a personal prefernce. Glad to know that you are sporting nice bright shades with elan :)

@Rads & Retnu: Yup. Browns are quite foolproof also. They always look good :)

  8. i think the best way to add that pop of colour to the face is by means of lipstick or liner, just as you said. thankfully, the place where i work part time as a teacher is not at all regimental about what clothes i wear or what makeup i apply. i go wearing bright, happy colours and the children all feel so happy looking at me!

  13. Sadly im in an office which is so corporate and formal that if you spend a little time getting ready and looking good, yll instantly be labelled as an airhead (such a stupid mentality).. 9i have the chai latte quad, but apart from the copper , the others dont show up on me :(

  14. @Simran & Shuchita: Thks :)

@Mehak: That is so sad ya.. Yea I too have some trouble with Chai Latte without a primer. It is not very pigmented and you need a primer with this quad.

  15. Ya, I have the Chai Latte quad too...and I find that apart from the shimmery golden shade and the highlighter, the two others don't work for me...both of these are matte finish shades and make me look gh'o'stly (or ghastly, whichever)....
I love brown eyeshadows with a little shimmer to them....
I'm dusky and have dark eye lids....Would love suggestions for some shades and brands that I could use....
