Ponds White Beauty Daily Spot-less Lightening Day Cream - Review

Ponds White Beauty Daily Spot-less Lightening Cream
It Claims: After researching with over 20,000 genes, the Pond’s Institute identified a specific gene that significantly affects melanin production. Through this discovery, our most effective skin lightening formulation containing the revolutionary GenWhite™ formula has been created.

Pond’s White Beauty Day Cream, with GenActiv™ Formula, adapts to your unique skin to lighten skin from within, fade dark spots from the source, and evens skin tone for spot-less complexion in just 7 days. What’s amazing about it is that the product works differently on each person. So, if there are areas on your skin that need extra help and contain more melanin, the formula concentrates on lightening and brightening those exact problem spots.

It is the world’s first non-oily, matte cream with sunscreen systems. With SPF 20 and PA++, it protects against both UVB and UVA rays. A product so powerful and special, 9 out of 10 women see the superior results of this day cream.

What I liked:

1. I was quite skeptical of the claims, to be honest. It claims to work differently on different people as per your needs.

I was in Goa three weeks ago for a training for an entire week. As expected, I used sunscreen sporadically (I know, but I was in Goa. I just wanted to run to the beach at every given opportunity) and had a tan when I got back. The tan didn't bother me so much since it was just about 2 shades darker than my normal skin tone, but I had also been negligent about my acne cream (I blame the late night beach parties & early morning sessions). At the end of the week, I had 5 fat acne spots on my face.

Acne always leaves marks on my face. :-(

I have been using this cream for about 2 weeks now, and a couple of my spots have almost disappeared, and so has my tan. I'm back to my normal skin tone and the darker spots do seem lighter. I think one of the active ingredients here is niacinamide (Vitamin B3) which has been proven in studies to help brighten and refine the skin tone. (If you are interested in the benefits of Vitamin B3, please scroll down to the end of the post). It is 4th in the list of ingredients.

2. The cream is really non-oily & matt. Even in the high humidity of summer & now, monsoon, in Mumbai, it has never made my face oily or sweaty. In fact it seems to make the skin appear a bit brighter once applied.

3. You need only a little bit to cover the entire face & neck. A pea size is more than adequate.

4. Price is reasonable & it is quite easily available.

5. It layers easily. I generally apply this on top of my SPF serum and it goes on smoothly. No balling issues. Further I use a compact on top and it generally seems to function well.

6. It didn't break me out.

7. The texture of the cream is quite mousse like, it is a lot like Fair & Lovely. It goes on matt but didn't dry out my skin.

What could be better

1. You *have* to use very little quantities as otherwise it leaves a white cast on the face. More like half a pea size for the entire face & neck.

2. Because one uses such minuscule quantities, I'm not really sure if one does achieve SPF 20 protection on the skin. To really achieve that level, I suppose one would have to use larger amounts (than half a pea) but then we have the white cast problem. So you cannot skip sunscreen when using this.

3. The packaging is rather bulky. The glass bottle is very heavy and takes up too much space compared to the product inside. This was the reason I didn't carry it with me to Goa. I'm not sure what the smaller sizes look like, since I haven't seen them. Maybe those are more travel friendly. Also the inner cap somehow makes things more messy. The cream is perpetually stuck to it (despite cleaning) and leaks all over the rims as a result.

4. Both my tan & my acne marks were relatively fresh, and could be the reason why the cream was so highly effective. If your marks are older, it may take a bit longer to resolve.

Recommended: Yes! If you are looking to get rid of a tan or have hyperpigmentation (acne marks, sun burn), this cream might be able to help. But don't expect it to make you lighter than your natural skin color.

By the way, just to clarify, I really don't frown upon people who use products to make their skin lighter or darker. It is a personal choice. Whatever makes you happy. You can read more about my views on the same here

About Vitamin B3: Topically applied niacinamide has been shown to increase ceramide and free fatty acid levels in skin, prevent skin from losing water content, and stimulate microcirculation in the dermis. It also has a growing reputation for being able to treat an uneven skin tone and to mitigate acne and the red marks it leaves behind (known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). It is an excellent ingredient for those struggling with wrinkles and breakouts. Niacinamide is stable in the presence of heat and light.

Product sent for consideration by Brand / PR. Review is a honest recap of my experience using the product.

Have you tried this cream? Did you like it?

  3. Bingo, I thought the same about it, that it is exactly like the Fair n Lovely (the earliest version) in the finish dept!

I agree with all the Pros and Cons. Only thing I see that it takes a hell lot of time to get absorbed 'completely' (more than an hour on me) and if by any chance I wash my face in the meantime, it would come down in white rivulets all over :P

    1. Pooja! I initially was wondering if this is Fair & Lovely just packaged in a jar & being sold under Ponds brand.. :P

I can understand why it would take that long to get absorbed. It has that texture where it sits on the face. In order to avoid that I use very little amount of it - like half a pea size.. seems to cut out the thickness of the layer on the skin.

  4. I am right now using this product. It is pretty amazing for oily skin and I actually love this. But have you faced a "sweating" problem with this????? I know the question might sound weird, but I sweat like crazy if I don't immediately sit underneath ac or cooler for atleast 5 minutes after applying this cream.......weird huh? :D

    1. I know! It is very good for oily skins.. I know what you mean by the "sweating" problem. I have faced it with other creams in the past, but not with this until now. Maybe I use very little quantity.

  5. yes, same thoughts on the products, Tanveer!!! it does leave a white cast. I apply it first on the skin, didn't try it out on the sunscreen yet. but, I hate the white cast and the way it clumps up on my skin :( to answer indianmakeupways, yes, even I do sweat unless I am in front of cooler!!!

    1. Yes, the white cast is an issue. It tends to sit on the skin at times.
