LUSH Sympathy for the Skin - Review

A dear friend had gifted me LUSH vouchers for Diwali. This product was one of the things I got from it.

What it Claims: Generous banana custard body cream. Eleven years old and still as popular as ever, Sympathy for the Skin is probably the only banana custard body cream in the universe, and almost definitely the only one with real, organic mashed bananas in it. We use real bananas to make skin softer, even if they're a bit of a menace to mash. Smooth our nutritious cream all over your body and go absolutely bananas. The name comes from The Rolling Stones' track 'Sympathy for the Devil.'

Ingredients: Vanilla Pod Infusion (Vanilla planifolia), Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis), Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Fresh Organic Bananas (Musa paradisiaca), Stearic Acid, Glycerine, Triethanolamine, Sandalwood Oil (Santalum album), Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum), Labdanum Resinoid (Cistus ladaniferus), Cetearyl Alcohol, Limonene, Perfume, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

organic bananas.
They are emollient and highly moisturizing, when applied topically. They soften the skin, making it flexible and pliable.

Vanilla pods are made up of sugars, vanillin, fats and mineral salts. The sugars in vanilla act as humectants (moisture binding), when applied topically, and are particularly suitable for retaining moisture on hair, skin and lips.

Price: Rs 1,180 for 240 gms tub

Pros:
1. Totally non-greasy, it absorbs instantly into the skin, making it convenient to use this in the morning after a bath – no sweaty sticky feeling, plus it moisturises for a long time. You will need to reapply only once in 24 hours.
2. It smells lovely, hint of banana with vanilla – yum.
3. All natural ingredients – the product is vegan - meaning all the ingredients have natural sources, no animal sources.
4. I have been using this on my face also since the last one month, it has not broken me out. It absorbs instantly & the moisturisation lasts a good 12 hours.

Cons:
1. It expires after 9 months.
2. It is expensive.
3. It makes me hungry every time I use it – it’s the smell – so yummy :P
4. it has parabens as preservatives

Will I re-purchase: Not likely. I love everything about it, but the price. It is very expensive for a body lotion – which I use copious amounts of. If they were to reduce its price by half - around 500, I would get this in a heartbeat.

I recently bought Patanjali Coconut oil after reading Wiseshe (Anamika)’s review of it & it makes a very nice body lotion – only problem is that one has to use it as night as it makes my skin little bit greasy. But that’s ok with me.  I wake up to very soft skin in the morning. Plus it is way cheaper.

  1. LOL @ "makes me hungry everytime I use it"
I'm not into liquid body butters, so I'll skip! I'd rather use buffy in the shower which doesn't make me hungry at all. :P

  9. @AOYV: It really does! I feel like digging into a lemon tart for some reason :P.. Not good for people on a diet.

    @Rakhshanda: Yea, it is expensive.

I do quite like using patanjali coconut oil - but only for the body, as coconut oil makes me break out in acne when I used it on my face. I even got their almond oil & I liked it as well.

But then everyone's skin is different na, what might suit one person, might not suit someone else at all. I honestly can't say if this will suit your skin.

I like using oils for moisturisation & skincare. I use sesame oil on my face once every two days, as well as almond oil.

@HD: very harmful if you are on a diet :P

@Inky Pinky: Yup, Lush is very expensive.

@Anamika: hey, you are most welcome. I honestly don't know how long it lasts. I just got this begining of November & have been using it once every 2-3 days as it makes me feel very hungry when I use it :P.. I have not even used 1/4 of it I feel. I mostly use it on my arms, neck & face. I use oils on my legs as they tend to be drier.

@Stylemakeup: LOL, once your friend's realise that you are a cosmetic junkie, you start to get such gifts..

@SSG: I visited my first Lush store like 3 years ago & I almost ran out in fright when I saw the prices!

@Prerana: Yup, they sure do smell heavenly! :D

  12. Hey Tanveer,

Sounds good. My only problem with some of Lush products is they smell very fruity and candy like, is this smell in that category? Overall sounds good though!

And seriously i think most of us have gone into a mini hibernation mode to wake up only post the new year, so good to see something new and interesting to read :-)
